AOD x ZANINI x TOLIX

Capsule Collection

Zanini de Zanine, who was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1978, grew up observing the work of his father, the architect and sculptor José Zanine Caldas.

It was during his apprenticeship under Sergio Rodriguez that he produced his first piece of furniture.

From 2003 onwards, he would create a wooden furniture collection. With its fallen columns, beams and sundry remnants of dwelling houses that he recycles, he would call it “Contemporary Carpentry”.

In 2005, he launched his own industrial production using wood of controlled origin and other materials such as plastic, acrylic, metal and different pieces of manufactured products.

To showcase his new line of furniture, Zanini founded Studio Zanini in 2011. He has won prestigious awards in Brazil and overseas, and has exhibited his creations at the most high-profile domestic and international exhibitions in the sector.

At present, Zanini produces pieces for leading global design brands such as  Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Slamp and Espasso. In 2015, he was named “Designer of the Year” by Maison & Objets Americas.

In its wish to disseminate Brazilian design around the world, Abbey of Design has started a collection with Tolix in a venture that represents a coming-together of one of the most promising young prospects on the Brazilian design scene and an iconic brand in French design.

This capsule collection consists of three pieces: Fauteuil Z01, Chaise BR and Module A. Made from perforated steel, in this collection Zanini has incorporated the heritage of Tolix, stackable, resistant indoor/outdoor furniture more specifically aimed at the professional market (hotels, cafés, restaurants, etc.).
